The Imo State Police Command has paraded a six-man gang suspected to be kidnappers who recently abducted five children at various locations within and outside the state.
Parading the suspects before the public at the Imo State Police Command Headquarters, Owerri, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Mr. Godson Orlando, said that the syndicate operates within and outside the state.
According to him, one of the abducted children was rescued in Abuja in collaboration with the Abuja Police Command.
The command confirmed that the syndicate was involved in child trafficking, noting that one of its members had earlier been arrested.
One of the suspects who said she hailed from Cross River State told newsmen that she only took the five children to spend some time with them, with the consent of their mothers.
However, she admitted selling two of the children for N300,000 while she took home the remaining three.
Another said that she got involved because she trusted that one of them was an agent who owns an NGO that arranges adoption of babies.
Yet another claimed that she knew nothing about the deals, saying that one of them was only her friend who told her that the five-year-old boy in her custody was his uncle’s son.
One of the young men amongst them said that the Lady was a nurse who helped him to adopt a child.
Another of the men said that one of the suspects was his girlfriend who visited and went away with five children in the compound he lived in.
