Newly sworn-in Local government Interim Management Committee Chairmen, especially those residing outside their domains have been directed to relocate to their respective LGAs immediately or resign their appointments within 24 hours.
Imo State Governor, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, read the riot act during his speech at the swearing in ceremony of the newly appointed LG bosses held at the executive chambers of the Government House, Owerri recently.
He made it clear that the tenure of the chairman and members of the committees and will last for a period of six months.
According to the Governor, democratic LG elections will be conducted in the state in December 2019 to hand over power to the people.
Ihedioha equally explained that the six months tenure of the management committees was formed in line with the constitution to sanitize LG administration in the state and reiterated his commitment to ensure proper functioning and autonomy of LGAs.
The Governor further explained that the immediate past LG chairman were suspended on the recommendation of the state house of assembly, who he said, has oversight function of ensuring good LG administration.
He advised the new LG bosses to take advantage of the opportunity to serve their people diligently.
The Governor also charged them to be accountable and to discharge their responsibilities without fear or favour.
He, however, warned that his administration will not hesitate to axe any of them who fails to discharge their responsibilities accordingly.
The newly sworn-in LG chairmen include Hon. Solomon Onwuegbuchulam Owerri North, Dr. Anslem Opara- Ikeduru, Hon. Innocent Ekenma Owerri West, Hon Ebere Chukwuemeka- Owerri Municipal, ugo Canice Mba- Mbaitoli, Hon. Charles Agbara- Ngor Okpala, Jonathan Onyeneke Aboh Mbaise, Sam Ahiarakwem- Ahiazu Mbaise and Getrude Iroeme (Mrs) Ezinihitte Mbaise.
