Imo State Governor, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, has promised to carry out a comprehensive renovation of the Imo State House of Assembly complex.
He made the pledge during an inspection visit to the Assembly complex on Wednesday, following outcry by the state legislators on the poor state of the Assembly building.
The Governor expressed shock over the poor state of the Assembly building and directed the Ministry of Housing to undertake a comprehensive assessment of the complex to enable the state government get a detailed knowledge of the level of dilapidation of the complex.
Ihedioha used the opportunity to inform the state legislature that he will present a supplementary budget to the House for consideration, adding that work will start on the complex once it is captured on the supplementary budget.
The former Deputy Speaker, Federal House of Representatives pointed out that the legislature is an integral part of democracy, stressing that parliamentary buildings should always be in order to enable legislator carry out their legislative functions effectively.
Responding, the Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Hon. Chji Collins thanked the Governor for the visit and for his concern.
He promised that the state legislature will work in synergy with the executive to ensure that democracy thrice.
Also speaking, member representing Njaba state constituency, Hon. Uju onwudiwe commended the governor for his quick intervention, adding that, as a former legislator, he has shown that he knows his onions.
