The Central Planning Committee of the 60th Anniversary celebration of the Anglican Diocese of Owerri has been patted on the back for doing a great job.
The Bishop of the Diocese, Rt. Rev. Chukwuma Oparah, Ph.D, JP, gave the commendation during a special thanksgiving by the committee, for a successful planning and execution of the programme, at St. Mark’s the Evangelist Chapel, Bishops court Owerri on Wednesday.
Bishop Oparah, who acknowledged that the epic event was very successful, also revealed that it has been attracting loud ovation from within and outside the Diocese.
He thanked the Chairman of the committee, Rev. Engr. Michael Arimanwa Ph.D and his team, especially for the wonderful manner and cooperation that characterized the planning, adding that what matters most is not the financial outcome but the joy of the fellowship of brothers and sisters.
The thanksgiving took place during a Eucharistic service which was celebrated by the Bishop.
In his sermon, Ven. Simeon Duruji emphasized the importance of giving to God, stressing that it is a compulsory obligation for every human being to give thanks and praise to God especially for giving us life free of charge.
He charged Christians, especially Owerri Diocesan faithful, to go on and carry the light of the gospel to all nations, even as the curtain draws on the 60th anniversary celebration.
Ven. Duruji, who is the Archdeacon of Orodo encouraged Christians not to be deterred by the wanton killing by the Fulani herdsmen and the RUGA agenda. “We will continue to expand God’s Kingdom, no matter the cost”, he said.
The climax of the service was the special thanksgiving by the committee led by their chairman, Engr. Arimanwa, Secretary, Sir Sam Macaulay, Co-Chairman, Sir Uche Osoagba and other members.
The service also featured special thanking by the family of the Bishop’s Chaplain, Rev. Jonah Nwebo whose wife had a successful surgery recently as well as the Anglican Youth Fellowship for a successful conference and football tournament.
