Imo govt solicits support of the church to rebuild Imo State

The church has been called upon to always speak out boldly against bad governance and other evils in the society.
Imo State Governor, Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha gave the charge during his speech after receiving an award –’AN ANGLICAN ICON’ from the Anglican Diocese of Owerri at the Cathedral Church of the Transfiguration of Our Lord (CATOL), Owerri recently.
He warned the church not to compromise, stressing that the church should be the last hope of the common man in addressing the ills of the society.
The Governor, who was accompanied by Top government functionaries, reiterated his promise to rule the state with the fear of God.
He called for decency and sincerity among Imolites and solicited for the cooperation and assistance of the church in rebuilding Imo.
Governor Ihedioha pointed out that Imo State is in a very bad situation, occasioned by bad governance and made it clear that all those involved in the destruction of the state will not be allow to go free, to serve as deterrent to others.
He thanked the Bishop, Rt. Rev. Chukwuma Oparah, Ph.D, JP, and the Diocese of Owerri for honouring him, adding that he is proud to be an Anglican.
The Governor also commended the wife of the Bishop, Mrs. Chidiebere Oparah (Mama Owerri) for supporting the ministry of the Bishop by taking good care of him.
The prestigious award, which was part of the 60th Anniversary celebration of the Diocese, was presented to him by the Bishop.
Other dignitaries honoured by the Diocese include a former Governor of Imo State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim, immediate past Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere, Chief Engr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, Vice-Chancellor of Imo State University, Prof. Adaobi Obasi, immediate past Commissioner for Health Imo State, Dr. (Mrs) Angela Uwakwem, Chairman of Imo State Council of Traditional Rulers, HRH Eze Samuel Ohiri among others.
Senator representing Anambra Central, Mrs. Uche Ekwunife was among dignitaries that graced the memorable occasion.
