Members of the New Owerri Youths Organisation (NOYO) have been commended for obeying laid down rules of organizing elections and other socio-cultural activities in the Owerri Municipality.
Former President-General of the Owerri Community Assembly, Chief (Dr.) Christian Oweaya Anukam KSM, made the commendation when members of the organisation visited him in his New Owerri residence to introduce their newly constituted executive members to him.
Oweaya, the Agbawo-Dike-Izu of Owerri, assured them of this support and promised to appeal to the government to empower the youths.
He called on Gov. Emeka Ihedioha of Imo State to provide good roads and other infrastructure for the village to stem the rural-urban migration.
Chief Oweaya who appreciated them for their wisdom in honouring him as a leader in the area, advised them to always be law-abiding and not to do anything that will tarnish their image, such as possessing arms and drugs, and getting involved in other anti-social activities.
Rather, he said that they should be focused towards achieving their goals in life. He stressed the need for them to assist the government and community to fight insecurity, as foot soldiers of the community.
In his response, the President of the group, Mr. Nwokoye A. Kingsley, thanked Chief Oweaya for the warm reception accorded them as well as his good advice and promised that his team will perform well.”We shall not bring shame to the area”, he said.
Highlight of the event was automatic position of patron bestowed on Chief Oweaya Anukam by the Organisation.
They stated that their keenly contested election was peaceful and transparent and witnessed by security agents.
Some of the executive members of the group were the Vice president, Ezenagu Chijioke; Ogochukwu Osuagwu, Financial Secretary; Barr. Stephen Akuchie, Legal Adviser. Ike Emmanuel – Secretary General; Mr. Ohayagha; Anumnu Ikenna – Treasurer; Chief Golden Odoemena – Leader; and Iyke Okafor – B.O.T. Chairman, among others.
