The recent prophecy by controversial Catholic Priest and Director of Adoration Ministries Enugu Rev.Fr. Ejike Mbaka, that Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha will be unseated as governor of Imo State has continued to generate more reactions from eminent Imolities.
Frontline politician and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BOT) member, chief dr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu described it as contempt of court and expressed shock over the action of the cleric.
“We were shocked to observe that Rev. Fr. Mbaka proclaimed judgment at his Adoration ground in favour of the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate. The proclamation is very sadly, contempt of the Supreme Court of Nigeria Iwuanyanwu stated.
He noted that the people of Imo State voted overwhelmingly for PDP and maintained that Ihedioha was the rightful winner of the 2019 governorship election in Imo.
“The 2019 election was duly and diligently conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC. The people of Imo State, who for so many reasons desperately wanted a change, voted PDP into power. INEC in honesty and transparency in pursuit of its duty as the electoral arbiter declared Rt Hon. Emeka Ihedioha of PDP the winner. Emeka Ihedioha scored the highest number of votes and fulfilled all the other constitutional requirements. This decision was received with very loud ovation by Imo people who desperately wanted to have a new beginning”, Iwuanyanwu further stated.
He went ahead to state that the people of Imo state were impressed with the achievements of Emeka Ihedioha’s administration in various areas, stressing that noticeable transformation has taken place in the state since his assumption of office.
The elder statesman equally noted with satisfaction that groups outside Imo State have rated the present Imo government very high.
“Imo state has been rated as the least corrupt state in Nigeria. Imo State has also been rated as the least with inflationary pressure”, he explained.
The BOT member said that PDP believes in the Rule of Law as well as the legitimate right of every citizen to seek redress in the court of law at any level.
He however maintained that the party will not accept any attempt to prejudge the verdict of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, stressing that the party has absolute confidence in the Supreme Court to uphold justice.
“We will therefore not take the lawless part of declaring any party as the winner; rather as law abiding citizen, we will abide by the verdict of the Supreme Court of Nigeria.
Chief Iwuanyanwu appealed to Imo people and supporters of Emeka Ihedioha outside Imo State to remain and wait on the Almighty God and the verdict of the Supreme Court.
Also speaking, the chairman of the Interim Management Committee (IMC) of Owerri North Local Government Area, Hon. Solomon Onwuegbuchuklam said that Gov. Emeka Ihedioha’s victory was ordained by God and generally accepted by the people.
According to him, Governor Ihedioha has come to stay and no amount of pressure or manipulation can unseat him.
The LG boss chided the Catholic priest for his utterances which has always been controversial.
Hon. Omuegbuchuklam who said that the will of God will prevail also belives strongly that Emeka Ihedioha was the will of God.
The IMC Chairman noted that the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) may be forming an alliance with APC in the state against Gov. Ihedioha, but expressed optimism that it will not yield any fruit.
He also pointed out the Gov. Ihedioha is not in any way being disturbed or fazed by Mbaka’s proclamation.
In his own response, the IMC chairman of Ehime Mbano LGA, Hon. Ben. Nnaluka expressed reservations over Fr. Mbaka’s comments.
“I don’t want to talk about him. He has been causing confusion. He is a confusionist. The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) should look into his activities and possibly find out if he is alright”, the LG boss fumed.
Similarly, the organized labour in the state has descended heavily on Fr. Mbaka over his ‘false prophecies in the state.
In a release dated 5th January 2020 and jointly singed by the chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Imo State, Trade Union Congress (TUC) Imo State, joint Negotiating Council (JNC) Imo state and Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) Imo State, the group noted that Fr. Mbaka publicly announced that a former governor of the state flogged a catholic priest only to announce that the former governor did not do some later.
The workers and pensioners affirmed their solidarity for Gov. Ihedioha and state the group will reject any attempt to trunked the good dividends they are enjoying under his administration.
The group also state that Fr. Mbaka and his cohorts will be put to shame.
