A total number of 130 Anglican faithful were last Sunday confirmed by the Anglican Bishop of Owerri, Rt. Rev. Chukwuma Oparah, Ph.D, JP at Christ Church, Owerri.
The newly confirmed, who were charged by the Bishop to continue to be of good character also received their maiden Holy Communion same day.
Bishop Oparah, who presided over the Eucharistic service, also urged the newly confirmed faithful to strive hard to be agents of positive change, both in the church and in the society, having been equipped by the power of the Holy Spirit.
In a brief but explosive sermon, the Bishop’s Chaplain II, Rev. Chigozie Chukwuma charged Christians to always seek God first, assuring that God will add all other things to them.
Preaching under the topic, “Power to be fruitful”, he explained that to be fruitful, one must remain steadfast in the Lord.
Rev. Chigozie urged the newly confirmed to shun evil both in the church and society, after receiving the Holy Spirit.
The service was conducted by the Vicar of the church, Ven. Simeon Duruji while the Old Testament and Epistle lessons from Joel 2: 28-32 and Acts 8:14-17 were read by two of the confirmation candidates, Chibuchi Osunwa and kelechi Ukwueze respectively.
The Curate of the church, Rev. Canon Godson Okoro read the Gospel from John 14:15-31.
The highpoint of the service was special thanksgiving by the newly confirmed, their parents, God-parents and friends.
The service was well attended as the large church auditorium was filled to its full capacity.
In his vote of thanks, Ven. Duruji expressed gratitude to the Bishop and his wife, Mrs. Chidiebere Oparah, for the Episcopal visit and confirmation.
The newly confirmed received their certificates immediately after the service
