‘Ogbunigwe’ not for South East … We will follow Nigerian constitution, says Umahi * INC insists Igbo nation must have a security outfit

Gov. Dave Umahi of Ebony State has ruled out the establishment of a regional security outfit for the South East, just as many had muted the idea of naming the outfit ‘Ogbunigwe’, a name given to one of the most lethal weapons used during the civil war.
Umahi, the Chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum, urged that it would run contrary to the Nigerian constitution, despite that he and many others believe in state police
He said that the governors form the region are resolute in their adoption of community policing as prescribed by the Inspector-General of Police, Adamu Mohammed, stressing that the model fits into the local security architecture in the area.
Gov. Umahi, who was speaking in a television programme, said that he wants the State Police structure to be considered in the ongoing constitution amendment by the National Assembly.
