Jesus Christ has swallowed up death in victory!

So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and did what the Lord had commanded them. Aaron threw down his staff before Pharaoh and his officials, and it became a serpent! Then Pharaoh called in his own wise men and sorcerers, and these Egyptian magicians did the same thing with their magic. They threw down their staffs, which also became serpents! But then Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs. Ex 7:10-12
I have been speaking strongly on the need for us to be Bible literate. By this I mean that we should be able to have a basic understanding of some major events in the Bible. Unfortunately to my sadness, I see a lot of people who come to church without Bible. Whenever I climb the pulpit, I see many who come with Gideon Bible which is only the New Testament and Psalms. I see people whose Bible are incomplete. In the midst of this, I see a people who want the blessings of God. But let me tell you that there are certain blessings that will never come to you unless you come to know the scriptures and a deeper knowledge of God.
The Bible says, “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” (2 Peter 1:3 NIV). This means through our knowledge of Christ we can access what God has given us for life and for living godly lives. So how can we access God’s blessings if we do not have at least a basic knowledge of the Bible?
For instance, we always call God “Oloro ihe loro ihe dum!” What do you understand by this? Where in the Bible did you pick that phrase of praise? It is possible that there are some who may not know but they just join in calling God, “Oloro ihe loro ihe dum!” If you understand where this was picked, you will understand more, its power, import and use. An understanding will deepen your faith and make you more resolute and stronger in your faith and prayer.
A woman who saw traffic light for the first time was told that the red light meant stop but she never understood the entire reason for traffic light. All she knew was red meant stop and green meant go. She did not understand that the entire traffic light mechanism was meant to control traffic. Some of us just have a lower or shallow knowledge of God but we have not come to the full understanding of God. There is no way one can be a good mechanic if you do not understand how the engine functions to bring about the movement of the car. Having an ordinary knowledge that a car is for driving is not enough, you must understand how to operate it and put it to effective and productive use.
When the Aaron threw his rod on the ground and it turned to a snake, the Egyptian magicians did same. The only difference was that the rod of Aaron swallowed up the rod of all the magicians that were serving pharaoh. By this, Aaron had taken all the authority of the Egyptians as signified by the rod. He had taken their power! This was not by his (Aaron) power, but the power of God!
In relating this to Easter we can say confidently say that “Death has been swallowed up in victory.” “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” (1 Cor 15:54-55 NIV). By this act of swallowing the snakes of Egypt, their stings have been swallowed and Israel will no longer be under the dominion of Pharaoh. The Rod of Aaron has indeed become the rod that swallowed all other rods –“Oloro ihe loro ihe dim!”
When Christ was revealed he became the actualization of God’s plan before the creation of the world, His ministry supersedes that of Moses and Aaron and by His position as Lord and Saviour, He has swallowed finally the rod of Aaron that swallowed the rod of all the magicians in Egypt. Hence we call him, “Oloro, ihe loro, ihe loro, ihe dum!” And that is why He said authoritatively: “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.” (Matt 28:18 NIV). When you therefore invoke the phrase: “Oloro ihe loro, ihe loro, ihe dum” you are stating with all authority, the power of God, not just as revealed in the ministry of Moses and Aaron but as revealed in Christ. Colossians 2:9-10 says, “For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority.”
