The road map for life

Psalm 119:97-104.In the past tourists and explorers relied on road maps and compass to reach their destinations. Nowadays Google Maps and GPS are commonplace making it easier for anyone anywhere to get to their destination even to locate a missing car. We all need road maps, sign posts in life to help us know where we are going in our daily lives but also in our spiritual and emotional lives because we are pilgrims. The Psalmist said. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” Psalm 119:105. Christians are pilgrims on this earth sharing the same direction and destiny. In the past we were strangers to God before we knew and came to Christ, but now God says, “you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household” (Ephesians 2:19). To stay on course with the Lord as a pilgrim you need a system to guide you to your destiny. In order words you need God’s Road Map and his Compass which is the Word of God and the Holy Spirit. The Bible is inspired by the Holy Spirit. Paul states that, “All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness” (2 Timothy 3:16). From the Bible we learn what is true, what is wrong, how to correct wrong and how to apply truth. In the Bible Christians learn how to live a lifestyle consistent with the will and purpose of God which involves instructions and exhortations to walk and to keep God’s ways and relate with one another. Wisdom and understanding will come through reading and keeping God’s word Psalm 119:96-100.
Every Tourist or explorer must learn to use the guiding instruments correctly to avoid going astray and lives will be exposed to danger. Many Christians who have undertaken a pilgrimage to Israel and other Christian designated places know that the journey has both difficult and joyful times and there are tour guides trained to lead them. But at last they return happy to share their experiences including a Jerusalem Pilgrim (JP) title. When we look at the Christian life as a pilgrimage we are reminded that our soul -mental and emotional- and our bodies are involved in our spiritual journey knowing that joy shall be ours at last when we behold the glory of God. But as pilgrims here on earth, there are dangers all around as we move towards our heavenly destination. To stay on the right path is crucial. It not only means progressing towards God’s planned destination, but it means avoiding dangers which can sway us off the intended route. In order to reduce failures, dangers and mistakes we must sincerely desire God’s word and apply the word to get wisdom. Hear what Peter says to us, “Beloved, I beg you as sojourners and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul” (1 Peter 2:11).There are spiritual battles that must be conquered because the whole world is under the sway of the devil 1 John 5:15, and Paul warns that our battle is not against humans but principalities, powers, rulers and spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12).
All of God’s promises and his will are found in the Bible designed to help Christians navigate through life and fulfill their purpose on earth as well as reach their destination successfully. Jesus told his followers that when the Holy Spirit comes he will guide us to all truth. If you are listening the Spirit of God will whisper gently in your heart, “This is the way, walk in it” (Isaiah 30:21) that is divine direction, but you have the responsibility to obey. Most often the challenge comes when some Christians face the inability to obey the divine guide due to diverse distractions. The habit of waiting on the Lord and believing his word is critical. God’s word states “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exits and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him” (Hebrews 11:6). Believe and receive Jesus today. He is the One written in every part of the Bible and he will show you the way to your ultimate destination- Eternity. When you discover these secrets and learn to properly use their powers, you can navigate through all of life’s trials, problems and difficulties including offenses, betrayals, struggles with relationships, career and health challenges. It will require that you open your heart to the heart of God as revealed in his word and you will live a joyful Christian life, preparing as we approach the second coming of Christ.
