Meanwhile, the wife of the Bishop and President of the Diocesan Women Ministries, Dr. Mrs. Chidiebere Oparah (Mama Owerri), has commended the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), for calling off their prolonged strike, which they embarked upon to press for improved welfare package for their members as well as proper funding of Nigerian universities.
Delivering her presidential address yesterday at the 2022 Diocesan Women’s conference holding at St. Paul’s Church Ubaha Orodo in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State.
She observed with delight that ASUU’s decision to end the strike has a good one and called on the federal government not to allow the matter to reoccur.
“We want to commend ASUU for returning to classrooms, which has brought our children back to school after the long unexpected strike action that lingered beyond expectation. We pray that the federal government resolves this issue once and for all as we call on our president to ensure end to strike actions in the educational section in Nigeria as no nation can progress without the education of her children,” Mrs. Oparah stated in the well articulated, well documented and well presented address.
Noting that the general elections are around the corner, the Bishop’s wife urged Nigerian to guard their Permanent Voters Card (PVC) and use it to vote in credible candidates, who will move the country forward.
On the theme of the conference, “JESUS THE SOLUTION – Let Not Your Hearts Be Troubled’, Mama Owerri charged Christians to hold unto Jesus, stressing that He knows all about them and has the remedy for all their burdens and challenges.
According to her, Jesus is the only true solution to a troubled heart.
